Spotlight School: Southeast Lauderdale High School

Southeast Lauderdale was chosen for its efforts to improve attendance and bolster graduation rates by fostering positive relationships between students and school staff, and encouraging students to participate in extracurricular activities. By creating activities at school that students enjoy, students are more likely to attend regularly – and attending regularly is a key factor in course performance.

The SEHS team uses student-leaders to develop and foster peer-to-peer connections. Students invite new kids to join clubs they are involved in, or volunteer to peer tutor others who are struggling with courses.

Southeast Lauderdale High School began working with the Rural Schools Collaborative and the University of West Alabama in 2022 to create a student success system and strengthen the school’s efforts to empower students to graduate ready for their future. Check out our blog to learn more about how Southeast Lauderdale fosters connectedness to improve student well-being and attendance.
